An open house will be held Monday, Aug. 10, at the Polk County River Place Food Pantry, 2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines. The event, hosted by the Polk County Board of Supervisors, Polk County Family and Youth Services and the Des Moines Area Religious Council, will celebrate the opening of the facility and its success to date. Since opening in March, the food pantry has served more than 10,000 individuals and has already become the most heavily used of DMARC’s 12 food pantries. According to DMARC Executive Director Sarai Rice, 70 percent of the users of the River Place Food Pantry are new to the food pantry system. The open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:15 p.m.
