Eight Des Moines-area nonprofit groups have been awarded grants totaling $127,000 from the Opus Foundation, the charitable arm of the Minneapolis-based Opus Group, a commercial real estate development, construction and design company with offices in Des Moines.

Among the grant recipients is Creative Visions, which received a $67,000 Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award grant, the foundation announced. Rauenhorst was the founder of Opus Group. He died in 2014. The following year the company launched the Opus Foundation and the award in Rauenhorst’s honor.

“Gerry demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and a commitment to finding a better way to build a business, community and value-centered life,” according to a news release.
