Outlets of Des Moines partners in student desk-building project

119 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Retail and BusinessOutlets of Des Moines is partnering with an Ankeny nonprofit, Woodworking with a Purpose, to assemble, paint and distribute desks for students learning at home. The outlet center in Altoona is providing a socially distanced workspace across from Skechers on four evenings the week of March 22 for volunteers to build and paint the desks. Nate Evans, an Ankeny teacher and founder of Woodworking with a Purpose, has been building desks for students who are learning remotely during the pandemic. The nonprofit, which is affiliated with CORE Foundation, has built more than 1,000 desks since the pandemic began, with a goal to deliver 2,020 desks in Polk County.
