Partnership to host equity workshops
The Greater Des Moines Partnership will host workshops to help business leaders promote equity in their organizations. The workshops, titled “Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture,” are scheduled for 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, and Wednesday, Feb. 23. They will be hosted in collaboration with Equity in the Center. According to a news release, the virtual workshops will help participants delve into the topic of race equity and provide tools and resources to help attendees build a race equity culture. The first session provides training on the race equity cycle framework for organizational transformation. The second session will take a deeper look into operationalizing equity and will include breakout sessions that are designed to support the definition of specific priorities and action steps to build a race equity culture. The workshops build on a keynote session from the 2021 Inclusion Summit held in November. “Race equity is an important ongoing conversation for organizations of all types and sizes in Greater Des Moines,” said Marvin DeJear, senior vice president of talent development at the Partnership. “This workshop series will provide organizations with best practices and actionable steps to support their staff in understanding institutional racism and proactively addressing race equity.” Registration for the workshops is for both days and attendance will be capped at 100.
