A plugged wastewater line caused water used to cook pasta to spill into an Altoona company’s parking lot this week, flowing into a tributary and into Little Four Mile Creek. According to a news release from the Iowa DNR, Marzetti Frozen Pasta reported the plugged line late Monday morning. The company estimated as much as 500 gallons of the pasta water had been released, with about half of it reaching the creek, the release stated. DNR staff investigated and found a milky color in the stream, but didn’t see any dead fish. By Tuesday, the milky color was gone. Marzetti had contractors pumping up the contaminated water on Monday. The DNR said in the release that it will continue to monitor the stream and the cleanup and consider appropriate enforcement action.
