The Iowa Economic Development Authority board approved plans for an expansion at Pella Corp. in Pella and a $100 million joint project involving improvements in downtown Grinnell and Grinnell College. Pella Corp. is expanding a window line that includes features such as motorized wood blinds. The state awarded $152,000 in direct financial assistance as well as tax benefits, with the company promising 38 jobs at an hourly wage of at least $18.62. The city of Grinnell won provisional approval for $6.1 million for a project that includes new buildings at Grinnell College; the conversion of Grinnell Community Center into a boutique hotel, event center and spa; a mixed-use area where downtown meets the college; and improvements to Central Park, including a performance area.
