The Indianola City Council has appointed Pamela Pepper to serve as the city’s mayor, filling the position left vacant when former Mayor Kelly Shaw resigned in September because of what he said was a breakdown in his working relationship with the council. Pepper was appointed to the position during a special City Council meeting Thursday night. She was one of five residents to apply for the position. The council had to either appoint someone to the position or hold a special election, but the earliest a special election could be held was March 2021.The current term for mayor ends Dec. 31, 2021, and will be on the ballot in the November 2021 election. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our community as Mayor,” Pepper said in a release. “I am committed to making each and every citizen proud to be a part of this amazing community and am excited for the positive progress currently underway.”
