Des Moines Register: A Missouri resident infected with a rare “brain-eating amoeba” this month after swimming at a southern Iowa beach has died. Iowa officials closed the Lake of Three Fires State Park near Taylor County as a precaution July 7 after the swimmer was diagnosed with primary amebic meningoencephalitis from Naegleria fowleri, a microscopic, single-celled, free-living amoeba.
