A group of Iowa and Missouri attorneys filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court last month, accusing a Papa John’s franchisee of violating minimum wage laws, reports DesMoinesRegister.com. They allege the delivery pizza business paid drivers unreasonably small reimbursements for vehicle expenses and forced them to pay for work uniforms. The lawsuit claims the franchisee improperly paid drivers a “tipped employees” wage of $5.50 per hour, even though they were regularly doing non-tipped duties like answering calls, preparing ingredients and orders, folding boxes and cleaning. A lawyer for PJ Iowa LC, a franchisee that owns 26 stores in Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota, declined to comment.
