A production of “The Miracle Worker” at the Des Moines Community Playhouse this weekend will offer a first-time experience for those with hearing and vision impairments. The show starts at 4 p.m. Saturday. Made possible through a partnership with Iowa Radio Reading Information Service for the Blind and Print Handicapped (IRIS) and Deaf Services Unlimited, the Playhouse will provide a live audio description broadcast to the entire audience as well as American Sign Language interpretation. Prior to the show, a “touch tour” will be held starting at 3:15 p.m.. The goal of Saturday’s performance is to make the arts accessible to the entire community, said Playhouse Executive Director John Viars. Tickets are $13 per person and can be purchased online, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the door.
