A $10 million loan from the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) Revolving Loan Fund will enable Polk County to complete the Rock Creek Trunk Sanitary Sewer Connection project by next summer. The loan was part of more than $30 million in low-interest financing to 28 municipalities announced by the IFA on Friday. Polk County Public Works Director Robert Rice said the project will complete a main trunk sewer extension that runs from unincorporated Polk County north of Des Moines through the west side of Ankeny to Polk City, which is running out of treatment capacity. Once the project is completed, Polk City will become part of the Wastewater Reclamation Authority, which operates a wastewater treatment facility in southeast Des Moines serving the metro area. Ankeny and Polk City will repay the county for their share of the project, Rice said.
