A formal announcement is scheduled for noon today at the Sleepy Hollow Event Center, but according to a news release sent in advance of the announcement, Polk County Conservation will manage and operate the sports park, located on the city’s east side. The release stated that a $3 million fundraising campaign will begin in 2022 to fund a series of improvements, including campgrounds, a shower house, a winter sports facility, hiking and skiing and snowshoeing trails, and water trail access on Fourmile Creek. The 76-acre sports park is currently owned by Rick Flatt. Rich Leopold, director of Polk County Conservation, said the county will pay $3.5 million for the property, including the land, all buildings and infrastructure, the business, its name, and all digital assets. The county will make an initial $1 million payment soon, Leopold said, with the remaining $2.5 million being paid at closing, which is scheduled for the end of 2022. Polk County Conservation currently manages a system of 23 parks and trails.
