A new Gallup poll revealed that 60 percent of Americans distrust the media’s ability to report the news fully, accurately and fairly.

Gallup said this is a record high for media distrust and is driven by independent and Republican voters, at 31 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

Gallup pointed out that while Americans pay more attention to political news in presidential election years, they are less likely to pay close attention to political news than they were in 2008.

Results are based on 1,017 telephone interviews conducted Sept. 6-9.
