Remote Area Medical, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based nonprofit that organizes pop-up clinics delivering free dental, vision and medical care to those in need, is seeking volunteer medical, dental and vision professionals and general support staff for its Sept. 10-11 clinic scheduled in Des Moines. The two-day clinic will be held at Eastview Community Center in Des Moines, in collaboration with Des Moines Metro Adventist Radio (KPOG) and the Des Moines Seventh-day Adventist Churches. Founded in 1985, RAM has treated more than 888,000 individuals with $181.5 million worth of free health care and veterinary services. Services available at the RAM free clinic include dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental X-rays, eye exams, glaucoma testing, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, women’s health exams and general medical exams. Free take-home colon cancer screening test kits will also be available. The nonprofit conducted its first pop-up clinic in Des Moines in July 2021; that clinic served 148 patients, providing free dental care, vision and medical care, with 163 volunteers working at the two-day event. Individuals or organizations that would like to volunteer their time to help provide free health care services to the community can visit the organization’s website at www.ramusa.org or call 865-579-1530.
