Principal Financial Group has selected Edelman Financial Engines, an independent financial planning and investment adviser with more than 150 offices nationwide, to offer personalized retirement advice and financial well-being guidance to select large employers on Principal’s retirement record-keeping platform. The relationship, which launched last month, provides access to Edelman Financial Engines’ national network of financial planners for in-person and virtual advice in addition to a broad array of financial education tools and online advice. A recent survey by Edelman found that 84% of workers would value financial advice as a benefit from their employer. The relationship is “a great opportunity to further expand access to high-quality, independent financial help to more employers and their employees,” said Kelly O’Donnell, executive vice president at Edelman Financial Engines and head of the firm’s workplace business. Des Moines-based Principal, a top three defined contribution record-keeper, serves more than 7 million retirement plan participants and individual clients.
