Principal’s Lillis named 2014 CFO of the Year
Terry Lillis, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Principal Financial Group Inc., has been selected by the Business Record as the 2014 winner of the Deloitte CFO of the Year Award.
The award goes to the nominee who displays the most outstanding performance in his or her role as a corporate financial steward. Nominees were judged based on significant achievement and success within their profession and company, and personal and professional reputation showing high ethical standards.
Lillis was chosen from a field of 25 CFOs who were nominated for this year’s award.
Lillis joined Principal in 1982 as an actuarial student and was named actuary in 1995. He was promoted to chief financial officer of the company’s Retirement and Investment Services business, and was named to his present position in 2008.
An Iowa native, Lillis received a bachelor’s degree from Simpson College and a master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He is a member of the Iowa Actuaries Club, the American Academy of Actuaries, and the Society of Actuaries. He also serves on the Mercy Medical Center Finance Board Committee, the Simpson College board of trustees, the Emmett J. Vaughan Institute of Risk Management and Insurance Advisory Board, and the Diocese of Des Moines and Catholic Charities Finance Council.
