Pro Iowa opens final mini-pitch in Oakridge Neighborhood
The last of 10 mini-pitches donated by Pro Iowa opened in the Oakridge Neighborhood with a grand opening celebration on Nov. 17. Pro Iowa worked with Musco Lighting and Kick it Forward in a $1 million partnership that aimed to revive unused courts and take advantage of areas with limited space. Ten of the futsal-sized pitches have opened across the state, including four in Des Moines, and ones in Clive, Pleasant Hill and Sioux City. Oakridge Middle School students opened the neighborhood’s mini-pitch with an inaugural kick. “The mini-pitch is a welcome addition to our 17-acre neighborhood,” Teree Caldwell-Johnson, president and CEO of Oakridge Neighborhood, said in a release. “Over 53% of our residents are children and they have already been having a ball playing soccer on this new amenity.”
