Update and background:
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2021 on an 82,138-square-foot facility in Clive that will offer behavioral health services to children, adolescents and adults.

Clive Behavioral Health, which will have 100 patient beds, is scheduled to open in February. Construction of the facility began in November 2019. One portion of the building is one story, with an entrance and offices. A three-story wing with patient rooms is located on the west side of the facility.

The facility will include space for intensive day programs and outpatient care. It also will have a gymnasium and outdoor recreational areas.

The new facility is a partnership between MercyOne and Universal Health Services.

“We are pleased to reflect the collaboration of two premier health care systems to provide these critically needed services in Iowa,” Mary Thompson, CEO of Clive Behavioral Health, said in a news release. “Many individuals in our community have been touched by or are suffering with mental health challenges. Our goal is to provide patients and their loved ones with hope, healing and recovery through compassionate behavioral health services.”

The property had sat empty since Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines purchased the 5 acres in 1994.

When fully operational, the new facility is expected to add 220 jobs to the Des Moines metro area.
