Fleet Farm slated to open Friday in Waukee

What: Fleet Farm
Where: 1300 S.E. Kettlestone Blvd., Waukee
Project value: $25.4 million
Developer: Hurd Kettlestone LLC, managed by developer Richard Hurd
General contractor: Miron Construction Inc., based in Neehah, Wis.

Background and update: Fleet Farm, the Wisconsin-based big box retailer, is expected to open its new 192,000-square-foot store on Friday.

The store, which will employ about 200 people, will include grocery, tire, battery and auto service departments. Fleet Farm’s convenience store with fuel pumps, located in front of the retail store, also is expected to open Friday.

The store is currently operating under a temporary occupancy permit; a full certificate of occupancy is expected to be issued today, according to a Waukee city official.

The Waukee Plan and Zoning Commission in April 2019 approved an initial plat for the development, which sits on nearly 20 acres north of Interstate Highway 80 and east of Grand Prairie Parkway.

Fleet Farm has 45 locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, according to the retailer’s website. On average, a Fleet Farm store creates 200 jobs.
