The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University has received a $20,000 grant from Variety — the Children’s Charity to fund Character Counts programming for early childhood centers. The Variety grant will be used to provide materials and lesson plans to assist teaching staff as they work with children on social-emotional skills. “Teachers and parents tell us they love having additional lessons and ideas related to teaching and reinforcing the Six Pillars of Character,” said Scott Raecker, director of the Ray Center. The Ray Center offers a variety of public awareness activities and programming, including Character Counts, the most widely used character education program in the nation.
