Raygun, the retail store known for its witty T-shirt slogans, is moving its production operations to larger space in an effort to meet increased e-commerce demands for its products.

The space, located at 920 Morgan St., is in a Des Moines warehouse owned by Hubbell Realty Co. Raygun will occupy nearly 20,000 square feet of the facility, according to a news release.

“Closing for three months during a pandemic was less than ideal, but during that time, our web sales moved up, as well as demand for online fulfillment for custom prints,” Mike Draper, Raygun owner, said in a news release. “Oddly enough, our national presence has gained major ground as well with recognizable brands like CNN and NPR.”

The new production space will allow Raygun to more efficiently fulfill the increasing number of online orders it is receiving from customers, Draper said. The space will house most of Raygun’s printing, woodworking, display construction and warehouse inventory for online shipping and product transfers.

“This space will be, pretty much, the machine that runs Raygun,” Draper said in the news release. “We will refocus on in-store sales again in 2021, but this is where we’re at given the climate we’re in: re-shifting efforts to consolidate production and streamlining our systems.”

Raygun currently does its production at its retail store in the East Village and in two other spaces along Southwest Ninth Street, Draper said. The move to the space on Morgan Street will “consolidate all of our production under one roof, finally,” he wrote in an email.

Draper plans to begin moving the production operations to the warehouse during the next two to three months.
