March 1 marks the start of Read Across Iowa, a monthlong series of events to bring the joy of reading to children of all ages. This statewide observance coincides with National Reading Month. Locally, ISU Extension and Outreach in Polk County and Polk County 4-H have partnered with the Runnells Community Library and the Clive Public Library to host story times where children can hear books and participate in activities featuring agriculture and food. Additionally, throughout the month, ISU Extension and Outreach in Polk County will share tips in Spanish and English for parents and caregivers on how to engage young children before, during and after reading. For more information on the local Polk County Read Across Iowa events, visit the Runnells Community Library Facebook page or the Clive Public Library website, or visit the ISU Extension and Outreach in Polk County website at or call them at 515-957-5760.
