Record property revaluations resulted in spike in protests last year in Polk County

The 2017 assessment roll totaled slightly more than $40 billion, the largest ever and representing a 12.4 percent increase from 2016. Residential properties increased 8.2 percent, commercial and industrial property 8.5 percent, and multifamily property 10.7 property. Agricultural property decreased 2.35 percent due to the five-year productivity formula. New construction added more than $1.65 billion to the assessment roll. The biannual reassessments triggered a spike in protests to 8,797, the most since 2005. Of the protests, 51 percent were upheld and 49 percent were denied. Read the report here.
