The American Red Cross Serving Greater Iowa is seeking nominations of “honorable and selfless citizens” who have demonstrated heroism in their community for the 20th Heroes of the Heartland breakfast, the American Red Cross announced this week. Past hero designees have included a veteran who brought Wreaths Across American to Central Iowa; a former football player who rescued his father from a trench collapse; a neighbor waking up a family whose house was on fire; and a DOT worker who assisted in saving a family of 10 from rough waters. Nominations are being accepted at www.redcross.org/iowa until Dec. 31. Honorees will be recognized March 26, 2020, at the Iowa Events Center.
