162 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Health and WellnessReggie’s Sleepout, an annual event raising funds and awareness for Iowa youths experiencing homelessness, will return as an in-person event for the first time in two years on Oct. 29 at Drake Stadium. The event is organized by Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, a YSS organization, and was started in 2005 to honor Reggie Kelsey, who was found dead in the Des Moines River just months after he had aged out of the foster care system. The tragedy led to YSS developing the statewide Iowa Aftercare Services Network to provide support to those aging out of foster care. IHYC provides a space for youths in downtown Des Moines, providing showers, laundry facilities, emergency beds, food pantries and more. Individuals or teams can register for Reggie’s Sleepout. New this year, there is no registration fee to participate, a news release said. All donations and fundraising will benefit youth programs at YSS and IHYC. Registration and an online donation option are available at www.yss.org/rso.
