Twenty-five employees at The Des Moines Register have been offered early-retirement buyouts by parent company Gannett Co. Inc., according to a blog site that focuses on the nationwide newspaper company. Gannett Blog recently published a memo issued by Bob Dickey, president of Gannett’s community publishing division, spelling out a plan that offers the buyout option to 665 employees across the country; all are age 56 or older and have at least 20 years of experience with Gannett. A spreadsheet that appears on the website shows Des Moines with 25 offers, but says that the maximum number of buyouts here will be 21.  The Feb. 9 memo said those employees receiving the offer have 45 days to accept.
