Report: Farmers using too many antibiotics in pigs

A study by the Natural Resources Defense Council says hog farmers aren’t cutting out enough antibiotics from their livestock, Radio Iowa reports. Thirty-seven percent of the antibiotics used in livestock go to pigs. The report also said that continuing antibiotic use in pork production will threaten the drug’s effectiveness in people as routine low doses allow bacteria to develop resistance.
