Wind energy could provide 41 percent of Iowa’s electricity by 2020, and could more than triple by 2030, the American Wind Energy Association found in a report to be released next week. Iowa could produce enough wind to power the equivalent of 6.3 million average American homes by 2030, the group added. In 2014, Iowa generated about 28 percent of its electricity from wind power. Fully developing Iowa’s wind energy would save $3.68 billion in electricity bills through 2050 and bring in $137 million a year in property taxes by 2030. Full details of the report will be released at a roundtable discussion at 10:30 a.m. July 16 in Room 101 of Building 3E at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. The panel will feature industry experts and DMACC President Rob Denson.
