The Credit Managers’ Index (CMI) indicated retail expansion in December with the highest reading since May. December’s 54.4 showing was up from 53.5 in November, but remained below the December 2010 level of 55.8. In general, the combined level of sales started to grow again and jumped back above 60 after having fallen to 58.2 in November. The monthly survey is taken by the National Association of Credit Managers.
