Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig submitted joint comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in support of the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program. The program would provide grant funding to support investments in renewable fuels infrastructure. Iowa has awarded $35.26 million in state funding through the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program, which has leveraged more than $200 million in private investment in projects in Iowa since its inception. “Despite Iowa’s success with biofuels so far, our state is just getting started,” Reynolds said in her letter. “The USDA’s willingness to recognize the potential to build on [renewable fuels infrastructure’s’] successes with HBIIP is highly encouraging. We are confident that if the State of Iowa’s proposed expansion of RFIP is met with a federal commitment to HBIIP for both biodiesel and ethanol, we can accelerate the adoption of biofuels, supporting the environment and rural communities while we do it.” From 2016 to 2019, Iowa companies received $4.77 million in federal funds from the program to add blender pumps and underground biofuels tanks.
