Kim Reynolds has signed an executive order requiring new diesel cars in the state’s fleet to be models that can burn B20 biodiesel, a 20% blend. “If we are serious about reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector and boosting Iowa’s rural economy, we should be looking for new ways to increase biodiesel use,” said Iowa Renewable Fuels Association President Derek Winkel, who praised the order. Iowa is the country’s No. 1 producer of biodiesel, producing 365 million gallons in 2018. The state’s 11 plants’ capacity is 400 million gallons.
