The Rotary Club of Des Moines awarded its annual community service grant at its Dec. 7 meeting. The grant of $40,000 to At-Tain will fund a food truck and supplies to help them continue and grow their community breakfast program. The nonprofit is based at 2323 Grand Ave. in Des Moines, according to its Facebook page. For almost three years, At-tain’s community breakfast initiative has served 15,625 individuals free breakfasts. The gatherings have provided a sense of belonging in the community and have fostered connections that “extend far beyond the breakfast table,” the release said. “This year’s gift puts the Rotary Club of Des Moines Community Grants contribution at $365,000 to nonprofit organizations throughout Des Moines,” Rotary Club of Des Moines President Becky Greenwald said in a prepared statement. “I’m extremely proud of the heart and generosity of this club.” Each year, the Grants Committee reviews applications for many nonprofits and groups. Applicants are reviewed by a committee, and a final three are then interviewed before a selection is made.
