Blank Children’s Hospital, Metro Waste Authority and Safe Kids Greater Des Moines will host the second annual Christopher Allsup Gas Can Exchange on June 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at Metro Waste Hazardous Dropoff center in Bondurant. Residents can exchange their old, potentially unsafe gas container for a new metal safety container that is fitted with a spark arrestor. Christopher Allsup of Winterset, died in September 2013 at the age of 10 after being severely burned when a plastic gasoline container exploded, showering him with burning gasoline.
