Marylou Tyler may be an engineer and computer programmer, but her gregarious nature has always led her to the sales side of business.

Tyler, who recently moved from San Francisco to Des Moines, met Aaron Ross, a former sales vice president for Salesforce.com, as she was searching for a better process for helping a client boost its sales. Ross developed a lead generation process that he has used to help technology companies such as Responsys Inc., Wpromote Inc. and HyperQuality Inc. significantly increase their revenues.

While working as a consultant, Tyler discovered Ross’ process “and mastered it to the point that he brought me in to work with his clients,” she said. The two launched a consulting business and website, www.predictablerevenue.com, in January.

Ross and Tyler have since outlined the process in a new book, “Predictable Revenue: Turn Your Business Into a Sales Machine With the $100 Million Best Practices of Salesforce.com.” Both paperback and Kindle versions of the book are available on Amazon.com.

“(Ross) always says that I know more about the process than he does, but I’ve taken and added to it to make it even more predictable,” she said. “We really want to reach small businesses and teach them these techniques so that they can succeed.”

Tyler, and her husband, Jeff, moved their two boys and three dogs to Des Moines in February after he took a position as a mutual fund manager with Principal Financial Group Inc. She plans to be a stay-at-home mom, but isn’t ruling out a possible venture to work with small businesses in Greater Des Moines.

Besides remodeling an old house they’ve bought on Forest Avenue, Tyler said she hopes to become involved in promoting greater awareness of the need for recycling and other green practices at the consumer level in Greater Des Moines. “I’m seeing way too much Styrofoam in Des Moines,” she said. “That doesn’t exist in San Francisco.”
