Sales taxes for flood control
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported that the policy board and staff of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance on Thursday announced their support for a 10-year extension of the city’s existing 1 percent local-option sales tax to help build an improved flood protection system. Dee Baird, president and CEO of the Alliance, said that the Floods of 2008 caused more than $5 billion in damage in the city, ranking as the worst natural disaster in Iowa history.
