Salvation Army 8.5 percent short of fund-raising goal

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign remains 8.5 percent shy of its $900,000 goal. As of Thursday, the Salvation Army had raised $823,720. The bell-ringing phase of the campaign ended on Christmas Eve, but direct-mail efforts will continue through Jan. 14. “On the positive side, we have exceeded the 2009 total by 4.4 percent at this point,” said Arvid Huisman, development director for the Salvation Army in Des Moines. “Our $900,000 goal is aggressive – 12.5 percent more than last year’s total – because the demand for services continues to increase.”
