Sammons Financial Group and the Principal Charity Classic have chosen the By Degrees Foundation as the recipient of donations raised through the Legacy Project for 2023. The Legacy Project aims to allow sponsors and patrons of the Principal Charity Classic to designate a portion of their contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that strengthen the community in the long term. The By Degrees Foundation, renowned for its success in increasing high school graduation and postsecondary readiness rates in inner-city schools, will be supported by this year’s Legacy Project. To help expand its programs, Sammons Financial Group initiated this year’s project with a $50,000 donation. By Degrees has achieved remarkable results, as demonstrated by North High School, where 67% of all students participated in future-focused programming during the 2021-22 school year, and 72% of the class of 2022 had postsecondary plans. Ken McCullum, board chair for the Principal Charity Classic, commended Sammons Financial Group for its commitment to supporting organizations that address racial disparities and inequities.
