The U.S. Small Business Administration backed 15 private loans for Central Iowa businesses in January. The loans were for a combined $2.8 million.

That was more than double the seven loans backed in January 2015, which were for a combined $359,000 — one-eighth the amount involved in last month’s loans.

The Central Iowa businesses are in Polk, Story, Boone, Dallas, Madison, Warren, Marion, Jasper and Marshall counties.

LogiClean of Ames Inc., a janitorial service based in Ames, won backing for two loans worth a combined $971,500. That was the largest loan package backed in Central Iowa. Others in six figures were:
  • West Des Moines barber shop Scissors & Scotch Iowa LLC, $450,000;
  • Lasting Impressions and Learning Center, an Ankeny child care provider, $416,000;
  • Crucoli Enterprises LLC, a West Des Moines accounting firm, $246,000;
  • Clive chiropractors Livewell Clinic LLC, $190,000;
  • Sylvan Learning Centers, of West Des Moines, $150,000;
  • Restaurant firm Scatt-R LLC, of Urbandale, $120,000;
  • Friedrich’s Coffee LLC,  of Urbandale, $100,000.
Statewide, the SBA backed 36 loans for $12.6 million to Iowa businesses, 15 of them new. The businesses reported that they would create 409 new jobs and retain 227 jobs.
