U.S. school cafeterias are expectingshipments of free food this fall, paid for by federal aid in light of the trade war, the Associated Press reported. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving away $1.2 billion in food to help farmers hurt by trade negotiations. The USDA regularly does this, but it is ramping up the purchases due to the effect of tariffs. Some surplus goods, like apples and oranges, are welcomed and readily distributed, but a Maryland school district isnot sure how to use a truckload of “trade mitigation” kidney beans headed its way.
