Julie Schumacher, a District 3B judge, has been appointed to the Iowa Court of Appeals by Gov. Kim Reynolds. Schumacker, of Schleswig, previously was an attorney with a private practice in Denison. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota and her law degree from Creighton University. Shumacher is filling a vacancy on the appeals court created by the retirement of Chief Judge Gayle Nelson Vogel of Spirit Lake. The appeals court is Iowa’s intermediate appellate court, composed of nine judges who decide appeals from district courts across Iowa.
