Services set for former state lawmaker and Clive Mayor Gene Maddox

Gene Maddox, a Greater Des Moines lawyer and longtime mayor of Clive and Iowa lawmaker, died Tuesday at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. He was 76. Maddox was an Illinois native who moved to Des Moines after graduating from Northwestern University Law School in 1962 to work for the Brody, Parker, Roberts, Thomas & Harris law firm. In 1978 he joined Mid-Continent Industries and served as vice president of employee relations, secretary and general counsel until 1978. He maintained a private law practice from 1978 to 2006. Maddox was elected to the Clive City Council in 1975 and elected mayor in 1977, a position he held until 1992. Beginning in 1996, he served 11 years in the Iowa Legislature, first as a state senator and later as a state representative. A memorial prayer service is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 8 at Iles Westover Chapel, where visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Click here to read the full obituary.
