Sherman Hill, one of Des Moines’ oldest neighborhoods, will hold its 36th Doors to the Past walking tour of historic homes Sept. 22 and 23 and Sept. 29 and 30. New to this year’s walking tour is the Sherman Hill Design Challenge Contest. Designers throughout the Des Moines area created a complete makeover of one room in a historic home on the tour. Design concepts will be posted on the Historic Sherman Hill website www.historicshermanhill.com and can be voted on by the public from Sept. 10 to 14. The tour will feature 12 historic homes, which are in various stages of restoration, built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Tours will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m each day. Tickets can be purchased for $15 or $5 for students.
