Siemens mimics owls wings to cut wind turbine blade noise

Siemens has developed an add-on to its wind-turbine blade that reduces noise by mimicking the edge fringe of an owl’s wing. Owls are known for silently swooping down to catch mice and other rodents. Siemens now equips trailing edges with a combination of serrations and combs, which change the airflow in a way that reduces noise.
