Simpson College kicked off the public phase of its $25 million fundraising campaign on Saturday. Funds raised through “Imagine the Impact: A Campaign for Simpson College” will be used for renovating Dunn Library and Carver Science Hall, increasing the College Endowment, and contributing to the Simpson Fund. The campaign has already raised 80% of its goal due to the success of the silent phase, which saw more than 3,000 donors contribute more than $20 million, officials said in a news release. The private college in Indianola announced in August that it would be seeking a new president to replace its current president, Jay Simmons, amid declining enrollment and two rounds of faculty layoffs last year. “The past couple of years in higher education have been challenging,” said Bob Lane, vice president for college advancement and a Simpson alum. “But this college is resilient. There is a determination to get back to being the best. It’s time. We are calling on every single individual who has ever felt Simpson’s impact to join us in moving it forward.” The campaign is projected to run until May 31, 2020.
