Skate DSM has announced that it will host the first-ever Des Moines Streetstyle Open, a competition held at various locations in the Des Moines region. According to a news release, the event is scheduled for Sept. 23-35. It is modeled after the Copenhagen Open, which according to the release, is known as the best international skate competition in the world. The competition will move from location to location with the final contest held at the Lauridsen Skatepark along the Des Moines River in downtown Des Moines. Norm Sterzenbach, president of Skate DSM, said the event will feature some of the world’s best skaters, as well as top talent from across the Midwest and Des Moines. “With skateboarding’s debut in the 2020 Olympics and the opening of our new world-class Lauridsen Skatepark in downtown Des Moines, we are seeing an explosion of new and former skaters in the region,” he said. “This will be a great opportunity for us to host an amazing one-of-a-kind event and showcase our great city.”
