Organizers for the SMART Economic Development Conference, scheduled for May 14, announced that it has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Every year, we look forward to connecting with our economic development community. … However, given the concerns around COVID-19, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s conference.” The event, hosted by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Utility Association, draws about 500 development professionals, business leaders, chamber executives and elected officials to Des Moines. In the email announcement, organizers said it was a “tough call as the conference is an incredibly important event for the state of Iowa. “The good news is we still plan to host the event later this year,” organizers said. Additional details will be released in the coming weeks.
