Some not-so-scary Halloween statistics
What do Census Bureau workers do for fun on Halloween?
They count things, of course. So thanks to them, here are your essential Halloween census statistics:
- 41 million: The estimated number of potential U.S. trick-or-treaters (children ages 5-14)
- 115 million: The number of potential stops (occupied housing units) for said trick-or-treaters.
- $113 million: The value of pumpkins from the top six U.S. pumpkin-producing states. (Sorry Iowa, you’re not on the list)
- 1,115: The number of manufacturing plants producing chocolate and cocoa products in 2010.
- 1,634: The number of places to rent a costume in the United States in 2010.
And finally, the Census Bureau’s top five list of places to spend Halloween:
- Transylvania County, North Carolina
- Tombstone, Arizona
- Pumpkin Center, North Carolina
- Cape Fear, (there are actually two of them in North Carolina)
- Skull Creek, Nebraska
