150 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawThe state attorney general’s office is reminding consumers, farmers and businesses that all products containing cannabidiol are classified as controlled substances and illegal in Iowa, the office said in a statement. The 2019 Iowa Hemp Act, which will allow farmers to grow and process hemp, will not likely allow production until the 2020 growing season, and growers must obtain a license from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship before planting. Once the new law is in effect, CBD products must not contain more than 0.3% THC to be legal — yet the law also clarifies that products intended for human consumption must follow U.S. Food and Drug Administration laws, and the FDA has not approved most CBD products intended for human consumption. The office warns consumers that CBD products are not regulated by the FDA or state, and could potentially contain contaminants, including heavy metals or pesticides.
