State awards $951,000 in Main Street Iowa grants
The Iowa Economic Development Authority today announced $951,000 in Main Street Iowa Challenge Grants for 14 projects, including one to help upgrade a free meal site at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1548 Eighth St. in Des Moines. The $415,482 project will receive $75,000 to help upgrade the church’s kitchen, which routinely serves free meals to inner-city residents. The Challenge Grant program will be funded this year through an appropriation from the Iowa Legislature. Previous challenge Grants were federally funded. Since 2002, about $4.9 million in grants has leveraged more than $36 million in private reinvestment in 83 projects throughout the state. To see the full list of today’s recipients, click here.
