A major expansion by Rockwell Collins Inc. that’s expected to create 275 new jobs in Cedar Rapids was among 13 proposals that received economic development incentives this morning from the Iowa Department of Economic Development’s board of directors.

The board awarded nearly $1.24 million in the form of grants, loans or investments through a variety of incentive programs, in addition to more than $45.7 million in state tax credits through the High Quality Jobs Creation Program.

The IDED estimates the awards will result in the creation or retention of more than 700 jobs in the state and provide incentive for more than $800 million in new business investments.

In the largest project, Rockwell Collins plans a $23 million expansion at its Cedar Rapids headquarters. The aviation electronics manufacturer, which employs more than 7,100 people in Cedar Rapids, plans to build a new 160,000-square-foot building to accommodate work from additional contracts. Rockwell Collins will receive $9.5 million in tax credits.

A start-up precision manufacturing company that plans to launch in Clive this summer received $114,525 in assistance. Vincent Basile II plans to establish Aerospace Geartech Inc. through the purchase and merger of two out-of-state companies. The company will make high-precision gears, sprockets and pulleys for the aerospace and food processing industries, and is expected to create seven jobs. Geartech will repay the state’s $100,000 investment through royalties, the other $14,525 the project received was a grant.

Among the other projects receiving awards were an Iowa City Web developer, ethanol plants in Hinton, New Hampton and Ogden, and a storage tank and transloading facility in Manley.
